NBA veteran Jason Collins comes out as gay

Published: Mon, April 29, 2013 @ 11:56 a.m.

NEW YORK (AP) — NBA veteran center Jason Collins has become the first male professional athlete in the major four American sports leagues to come out as gay.

Collins wrote a first-person account posted Monday on Sports Illustrated's website. The 34-year-old Collins has played for six NBA teams in 12 seasons.

He finished this past season with the Washington Wizards and is now a free agent. He says he wants to continue playing.

So what? Why should this be news? I thought the gay community wanted to be treated the same as anyone else. He "wants to continue to play", as if he can now point to a reason if another team doesn't pick him up. Who is the one making it an issue? Some body being gay or not is so far off my radar..... except when they want to make an issue of it. Nobody needs to know your sexual orientation except your partner. Keep it to your self.

This revives memories of new articles about Jerry Sandusky in action at shower time during his days at PSU.
