Canfield’s Tanner English won the 105-pound national championship at the fourth annual Flo-Nationals wrestling tournament last weekend at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Wrestlers from all over the country participated in the event. English, an eighth-grader at Canfield Village Middle School, went 3-1 on the day with all three wins by pin. He started the tournament with pins over wrestlers from Kentucky and Pennsylvania. In the third round, he fell to Carpenter from Kentucky. In the championship bout, English faced Pennsylvania’s Brock Adams. English fell behind 3-0 after two periods. Adams got an escape to make the margin 4-0 in the final period. Then, when Adams relaxed on a single leg shot, English slipped a headlock and put Adams on his back. With 50 seconds to go in the match, English got the pin to seal his national championship.
