MAHONING COUNTY road projects

Active Projects

1. Elm Street, Youngstown

Total cost: $2.3 million

Start date: March 2013; Completion date: June 2014.

Replace the Elm Street bridge over Crandall Run between Tod Lane and Saranac Avenue. A minimum of one lane will be kept open.

2. Fairground Boulevard, Canfield

Total cost: $200,000

Start date: May 2013; Completion date: November 2013

Sidewalks will be installed on the street between State Route 46 and Hood Drive. A minimum of one lane of traffic will be kept open by flaggers.

3. State Route 7, Boardman Township

Total cost: $1.8 million

Start date: April 2013; Completion date: September 2013

Drainage improvements will be done on the state route between Karago Avenue and Boardman Boulevard. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained by flaggers.

4. State Route 11, Beaver Township

Total cost: $3.3 million

Start date: May 2013; Completion date: October 2013

Structures will be re-decked on Route 11 over state Route 46 and over Calla Road. A minimum of one lane of traffic will be open in both directions.

5. State Route 46, Green Township

Total cost: $700,000

Start date: May 2013; Completion date: December 2013

Two bridges will be replaced on Route 46 between Lesher and Cook roads and on Route 46 between Western Reserve and Dublin roads. Route 46 between Lesher and Cook will be closed for 14 days and for 75 days between Western Reserve and Dublin, but the closures will not be simultaneous.

6. State Routes 164, 165, 14, City of Columbiana; Beaver, Goshen and Green townships

Total cost: $2.8 million

Start date: April 2013; Completion date: September 2013

Route 165 between Route 14 and Route 46 will be resurfaced, along with 164 between the Mahoning County line to Route 7 and Rote 14, from 14 to the Mahoning County line. The project includes various bridge repairs on the routes and will have two separate 30 day closures for the repairs.

7. State Route 165, Beaver Township

Total cost: $3 million

Expected completion date: Sept. 30

The bridge on Route 165 over Mill Creek between Basinger Road and Blosser Road will be replaced. Route 165 over Mill Creek will be closed for 90 days and various daily restrictions will be placed on 11 under 165.

8. State Route 534, Milton Township

Total cost: $200,000

Start date: March 2013; Completion date: September 2013

Culverts will be replaced on 534 between Palmyra Road and Stoltz Road. The route will be closed for 14 days with posted detours.

9. State Route 616 and U.S. Route 422, Coitsville Township and City of Campbell

Total cost: $2 million

Start date: April 2013, Completion date: October 2014

Bridge structures will be replaced at the intersection of 422 and 616 over Dry Run Creek. Signal upgrades and intersection improvements will also be made. Both 422 and 616 will be closed for 90 days, but the closures will not happen simultaneously.

10. Interstate 680, Youngstown

Total cost: $14.1 million

Start date: April 2011; Completion date: July 2013

Seven bridges will be rehabilitated, including the Silliman Street entrance ramp to I-680 southbound, 680 over Price Road and Mill Creek, Woodland Avenue over 680 and Williamson Avenue over 680.

Upcoming Projects

11. State Route 46, Green Township

Estimated total cost: $1.9 million

Award date: May 2013; Completion date: September 2013

Improvements will be made to the intersection to add a turn lane at 46 between Cook Road and West Middletown Road. The project includes the installation of a pedestrian tunnel under 46. The state route will be closed for 14 days in late July.

12. U.S. Route 62 and State Route 170, cities of Struthers and Youngstown, Boardman Township

Estimated total cost: $2 million

Award date: September 2013; Completion date: September 2014

Resurfacing will be done U.S. 62 from McHenry Street to the Trumbull County line and SR 170 from Powers Way to Glenwood Avenue.

13. U.S. Route 62, Youngstown

Estimated total cost: $700,000

Award date: May 2013; Completion date: October 2013

Six entrance and exit ramps will be resurfaced: U.S. 62, I-680 north to U.S. 62 north, the South Avenue exit ramp to U.S. 62 north, 62 south to I-680 south/Williamson Avenue, the 62 south exit ramp to Woodland Avenue, the U.S. 62 exit ramp to 680 south exit ramp to U.S. 62 north. Traffic will be maintained throughout construction.

14. U.S. Routes 62 and U.S. 422, Youngstown

Estimated total cost: $2.5 million

Award date: November 2013; Completion date: Nov. 2014

U.S. 422 over U.S. 62/state Route 7 will be redecked and slope repairs will be made to U.S. 62 at the intersection of Route 7. Ramp closures will occur and one lane of traffic at minimum will be maintained.

15. State Route 164 (Western Reserve Road), Beaver Township

Estimated total cost: $5.4 million

Award date: October 2013; Completion date: October 2014

The bridge at Route 164 will be replaced and widened over I-680. Intersection improvements will be made with an additional turning lane added to the I-680 northbound entrance ramp for 164. The road will remain open during the project.

16. U.S. Route 224, Canfield

Estimated total cost: $200,000

Start date: August 2013; Completion date: October 2013

U.S. 224 will be resurfaced from State route 46 to Talsman Drive. One lane of traffic will be kept open during construction.

17. U.S. Route 224, village of Poland, Boardman Township

Estimated total cost: $5.7 million

Award date: April 2013; Completion date: October 2013

The bridges at U.S. 224 over I-680 and over Yellow Creek just east of I-680 will be replaced and widened. A signalized intersection will be added and the entrance ramp from U.S. 224 to I-680 north will be realigned. One lane of traffic will be open throughout construction.

18. U.S. Route 224, Berlin and Milton townships

Estimated total cost: $3.8 million

Award date: July 2013; Completion date: November 2013

The resurfacing of U.S. 224 from the Mahoning County line to west of state Route 534 and from 534 to 224 to the Trumbull County line will occur. Concrete overlays will also be added to seven structures. One lane of traffic will be open during construction.

19. Interstate 680, Beaver and Boardman townships

Estimated total cost: $4.7 million

Award date: November 2013; Completion date: November 2014

I-680 between U.S. 224 and the Ohio Turnpike will be resurfaced. Two lanes of traffic will be open during peak traffic hours.
