Neighbors | Natalie Scott.Poland librarian Annette Ahrens read "My Garden" by Kevin Henkes, a book about a girl who dreams about having her own garden, at the story time April 4.

d a story time for toddlers all about gardens and the joys of growing fruits, vegetables, and flowers April 4.

“I know it’s not quite warm enough out there yet,” said Ahrens, “But soon the sun will be out and you can help your parents in the garden and today’s story time is all about how much fun that can be. It will really get you ready to go out there and grow things.”

The story time began with a reading of “My Garden” by Kevin Henkes, which is about a child who loves to help in her mother’s garden, but dreams of how her own garden would be. Other books read at the event were “In the Garden,” about a family who grew many vegetables in their garden and each family member picked vegetables to make colorful salads for dinner, and “Planting A Rainbow” by Lois Ehlert, about a family that plants different colored flowers for their mother to have a rainbow in her garden every year.

Activities performed at the story time included performing a bunny rhyme, a rhyme titled “Little Seed In the Ground,” using the magnetic board to tell the story of an old man who planted a turnip seed that got too large to be picked, and singing “Jo McDonalds Had a Garden.”

The story time ended with a craft where children colored a flower that would “grow” when pushed up through the bottom of a cup.
