Daniel Jibotian, 53, committed suicide in his home on North Park Avenue with a gunshot wound to the head, according to the Trumbull County coroner.
Investigators also believe Jibotian set fire to his house and a barn. They found a suicide note in his car.
A sheriff’s office report says Mary Jibotian, 52, called 911 at 3:18 p.m. Sat- urday to report that her husband, Daniel, sent her a text message saying he was going to kill himself. The report notes she was at her parents’ house in Niles when she told Daniel she was divorcing him.
At the time deputies received her call, they already had been dispatched to Jibotian’s home at 4894 North Park Ave. Extension for a barn fire.
While en route, deputies were advised that explosions were heard coming from the barn area. Mary Jibotian told police that Daniel Jibotian was a hunter and had weapons in the home.
The first officer at the house said the barn was fully involved in flames, and smoke also was coming out of the home.
Seconds later, a deputy reported hearing shots coming from the house. Officers found the door to the house locked.
Officers attempted to contact Dan Jibotian’s cellphone, but it had not been used since the text message to his wife and was turned off, deputies said.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office is handling the investigation. The house and barn were a total loss.
Daniel Jibotian had worked at the Warren Water Treatment Plant since July 1987, according to Warren personnel records.
