C.H. Campbell Elementary School’s students didn’t let the cold air dampen their celebration of spring during the school’s annual Beach Day March 15.
The sun did make an appearance through the windows of the school’s cafeteria where the tables were cleared away and students spread beach towels to enjoy a picnic-style lunch.
The event is a celebration of spring, during which the students dress in brightly-colored beachwear for the day. Many students took advantage of this opportunity by wearing Hawaiian leis, Hawaiian shirts, straw hats, sunglasses, shorts, swim trunks, sandals, visors, grass skirts and lots of tropical flowers.
“It’s a fun day. This is the students’ chance to think spring and beat the winter doldrums,” said Travis Lavery, C.H. Campbell Elementary School principal.
Along with the sunshine, the cafeteria was decorated with beach balls hanging from the ceiling and cut-outs of palm trees and sea shells on the walls.
As a special treat, the PTO provided ICEE popsicles for dessert.
