Baseball team splits with Fitch

The Boardman varsity baseball split a doubleheader against rival Fitch, winning the nightcap 6-4 and falling 4-2 in the opener.

In the victory, Boardman trailed 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth when Evan Croutch belted a go-ahead three-run homer. Pitcher Joe Lendak struck out two in one inning of work to earn the win. Lou Cardona tossed two innings for the save. Bryan Fryda went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

In the opening loss, the Spartans gave up a three-run sixth inning to the Falcons to fall behind 4-0. Boardman rallied in the bottom of the sixth for two runs to cut the deficit to 4-2.

Nico DiIanni led the Boardman offense with a 2-for-4 effort, including a double and both RBIs.

Spartans earn Fed diamond win

Eddie Crump went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI to lead the Boardman varsity baseball team to an 8-7 victory over Federal League rival Canton GlenOak.

John Diamond was 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Nico and Phil DiIanni each added doubles. On the mound, Scott Lendak tossed four innings, striking out three to earn the win. Aaron Dill tossed three innings for the save.

Softball team beats Twinsburg

Casey Johnson homered and singled and Caitlin Cina was 3-for-4 as the varsity softball squad earned an 8-3 win over Twinsburg. Katelynn Morrell had two RBIs to help lead the 13-hot attack.

The Spartans rallied from a 3-1 deficit by scoring seven total runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Kristen Huck earned her first pitching victory of the season.

Lady Spartans earn softball win

Melissa Maiorano was 3-for-4 with a double and Megan Jones had a double and 2 RBIs as the varsity softball team beat Warren Harding 6-2.

Courtney Cina was 2-for-4 with a double. Pitcher Marina D’Amato went the distance and earned her first win of the season, allowing just two runs on six hits.
