Pancake breakfast set

Smith Corners United Methodist Church will host a pancake, sausage and egg breakfast today from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under.

All proceeds benefit World Service Projects. The church is located at 3000 S. Canfield Niles Road on the corner of Kirk Road and Route 46.

Church hosts free dinner

Smith Corners United Methodist Church will host a free dinner on April 18 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The dinner will include sliced ham, cheesy potatoes, peas, coleslaw, rolls, cupcakes and beverages.

This is a community outreach of the church and open to all on the third Thursday of each month.

Meals available at church

Smith Corners United Methodist church is offering special value boxes of just meats, pasta or kid’s meals. On the go meals are also available for those not able to cook full meals and are diabetic friendly.

All food can be ordered online until April 17 at www.smartchoicefoods.com where a credit card may be used, or by calling the church at 330-799-9390 before April 13 where cash or money orders may be used for payment. Delivery to the church will be April 27 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The church is located at 3000 S. Canfield Niles Road in Austintown and is handicapped accessible.

Church offers gift cards

Smith Corners United Methodist Church is offering gift cards that you can order for Walmart, Giant Eagle, Sam’s Club, Speedway, AutoZone and more.

Pick up an order form or call the church at 330-799-9390 for more details. Orders will be placed on the fifth and 20th of each month.

Mommy and Me Tea May 5

The Mommy and Me for Tea and Fashion Show will be May 5 from 1 to 3 p.m. at The Lariccia Family Community Center at Boardman Park. Mommy and Me for Tea and Fashion Show is a semiformal tea for girls 3-8 and their mom, grandma or other adult. Enjoy an afternoon tea with cookies and finger foods. The girls will model their own special outfit of the day and have a professional photographer take a photo for a keepsake.

Tickets are now on sale at the park office. Boardman residents are $14 per couple, non-residents are $16. Additional guests are $6. No tickets will be sold at the door.

5K walk set in Austintown

Friends of Fido of the Mahoning County Dog Pound is hosting its first 5K/one mile walk on May 4 at Austintown Township Park. Registration begins at 5 p.m. and the race is at 6:30 p.m., with the mile start to follow. Pre-registration is $16 and is available online at www.imathlete.com. Cost the day of the race is $20.

Monday Night Writers meeting set

Area writers, both published and unpublished, are invited to attend the next meeting of Monday Night Writers, on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Peaberry’s Caf , 4350 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Led by author and professional writer Nancy Christie, the two-hour sessions include a mix of writing exercises, information on the creative and business aspects of writing, and group feedback on ‘works-in-progress.’

AWBA to host Chinese auction

The annual Chinese auction for the Mill Creek Chapter of American Business Women’s Association will be held at the Ursuline Center at 4280 Shields Road on April 28 from 12:30 to 4 p.m.. The doors will open at 12:30 and the drawing will begin at 3 p.m. Ticket holders will have free refreshments and food and drink will be provided.

The donation for a ticket is $5 and you can purchase a ticket at the door or call Judy Codespote at 330-502-9413 for tickets prior to the event. There will be gifts for children, men and women and special raffles of items greater than $25 in value.

All proceeds will benefit the education fund. Presently, the chapter is sponsoring four students attending schools such as Youngstown State, Kent State and John Carroll University.

Fundraiser dinner set

A fundraiser dinner to help elect Bruce Shepas as Austintown Trustee will be held April 20 from 6 to 9 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church on New Road. The event will be catered by Marino’s restaurant and includes beer, wine and a DJ. Tickets are $25. Tickets are available at the door or in advance at Austintown Bounce.

Benefit golf outing to be July 20

The eighth annual sunshine benefit golf outing will be held on July 20 at Lakeside Golf Course. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and shotgun start at 9 a.m. The event will be a three-person scramble. The cost is $225 per team and includes a T-shirt, continental breakfast, lunch, drinks and a steak dinner to follow at Ball Busters Sports Bar.

Hole sponsorships are available for $100 and program ads for $50. Cost for just the steak dinner is $30 per person or two for $50. All proceeds benefit James Krokoski.

Benefit cornhole tournament set

Ball Busters Sports Bar and Grill, 3661 Mahoning Ave., will host a cornhole tournament on July 21. Registration begins at 2 p.m. and first bag toss is at 3 p.m. The cost is $40 per team and includes a hot dog lunch. The tournament will include double elimination, 50/50 and a raffle. Friends meeting and program set

The Friends of the Austintown Library will host its meeting and program on Monday at 10 a.m. Theresa Lyden from the Holborn Herb Growers Guild will teach about herbs. The guild, which just celebrated its 30th anniversary, maintains the gardens at the Western Reserve Historical Village in Canfield Fair grounds and Boardman Park gardens.

The Austintown library will host Smart Money: Tales and Talk for 2s and 3s on April 24 at 10 a.m. The program will include developmentally-appropriate stories and activities that will help your child (ages 2-3) learn about money. Each child will receive a piggy bank. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Get ready for your baby

The Austintown library will host a library baby shower today at 11 a.m. Gia Ramsey from Safe Kids Mahoning Valley Coalition will be there to talk about car seat safety and infant safe sleep. The library’s assistant children’s services specialist, Starr Jones, will speak about baby brain development and pre-literacy. There will be light refreshments and each family will leave with baby’s first book. One family will also win a prize. For adults only. Registration is required. Call 330-744-8636 to register.

The Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross will sponsor a blood drive at the Austintown library on April 23 from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Adults can bring your Nook to the Austintown library and the librarians will show you how to download eBooks from the Library’s Digital Catalog on their website on April 29 at 6 p.m.

Kindle class set in April

Bring your Kindle to the library and the librarians will show you how to download eBooks from the Library’s Digital Catalog on their website on April 24 at 6 p.m. Space is limited. Call 330-744-8636 and ask for specific library to register.

Have Earth Day fun at library

Children of all ages are invited to try their hand at paper mazes and or matching games at the Austintown library during the month of April. Show the librarian your finished project and receive a surprise.

Annual art show set

Enjoy art work by Fitch High School students at this very special art show. A reception, open to the public, will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Austintown library on April 18. Light refreshments will be served. Artwork will be on display April 16–21.

Children ages 2-5 who are accompanied by a caregiver can join the Austintown library for a variety of musical and movement activities that appeal to the “young and restless,” stimulate brain development, and motivate language learning every Thursday in April at 10 a.m. Adults and kids, get ready to act out stories and rhymes, sing and dance, and talk and play.

Curves offers free memberships

Benefit wine tasting April 20

The Youngstown Country Club will host a wine tasting on April 20 from 7 to 9 p.m. The gala event will pair complimentary hors d’oeuvres with the exquisite wines that have been selected for tasting, including some premier local winemakers. The event will benefit the Mahoning County DD Special Olympics Program.

Tickets are $50 per person, which includes a charitable tax deduction of $25. To reserve tickets, call the Youngstown Country Club at 330 759 1040, ext. 151.

Registration open for Women’s Heart Day

Registration for the 10th annual Woman’s Heart Day, a free health and wellness extravaganza provided by Humility of Mary Health Partners, opens Monday.

Provided as a service to the community, Woman’s Heart Day will take place on May 9 from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Covelli Centre. This annual event features free health screenings, fitness demonstrations, educational presentations on a variety of women’s health issues, cooking demonstrations, spa services, refreshments and giveaways.

Among the health screenings offered this year are bone density, lipid panel (cholesterol) and A1c testing, blood pressure readings, vision screenings, stroke risk and skin cancer risk assessments.

Registration is required and appointments for bone density, lipid panel and A1c testing are limited.

Pink Ribbon Golf Classic set

The annual Pink Ribbon Golf Classic will be at Squaw Creek at Avalon Golf and Country Club on July 15. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the American Cancer Society.
