2 Warren men face murder arraignments

WARREN

Richard A. Clark, 39, of Warren will be arraigned at 11 a.m. today in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court on charges of aggravated murder, aggravated robbery and heroin possession in the killing of Dwayne Hickman, 49.

Police found Clark unconscious from a heroin overdose at a home on Maryland Street Northeast on March 25, the day police found Hickman stabbed to death in his house on Williamsburg Street Northwest. Police said Clark had stayed at Hickman’s house in the past.

Patrick Heltzel, 20, of Atlantic Street also will be arraigned at 11 a.m. on a murder charge in the death of Milton A. Grumbling III, 71, of Kincaid East Road in Warren Township.

Home invasion in Glen

A woman who lives in the Glen told police she awoke early Thursday to find an intruder in her home.

She told police that the man used his shoelaces to tie her and demanded money. When he took her upstairs, the woman’s husband woke up, and the man fled.

Police brought a police dog to the scene, but the dog didn’t pick up a scent. The woman was unable to give a description of the intruder.

Dad-daughter dance

Fathers and male guardians who have a daughter or daughters between age 4 and 12 are invited to a semiformal dinner and dance from 6 to 9 p.m. April 20 at Ciminero’s Banquet Center, 123 N. Main St. Dinner will be served, and a DJ will provide entertainment. A professional photographer will provide a memento for guests.

Tickets can be purchased from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the main office of the new Niles McKinley High School, 616 Dragon Drive. Tickets must be purchased before next Friday ; they will not be sold at the door. For information call 330-652-9968.

Marine Patrol grant

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning County Sheriff Department’s Berlin Lake Marine Patrol received $20,146 through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ Marine Patrol Assistance Grant program.

The patrol was one of 24 grants, totaling $574,711, distributed this year by ODNR’s Division of Watercraft to help local law-enforcement agencies provide emergency response to boating-related incidents, conduct routine waterway patrols and purchase safety equipment for use on marine patrol vessels.

In 2012, Ohio had a record 435,310 registered recreational watercraft, ranking ninth nationally. The number of registered canoes and kayaks has more than doubled since 2001 and now represents 1 of 4 watercraft registered in Ohio.

Route 7 repaving

New Philadelphia

Work will begin Monday to resurface about 14 miles of state Route 7 in Columbiana County. The road will be resurfaced from state Route 267 through Rogers to just south of state Route 14 near Columbiana. Traffic will be maintained.

ODOT’s contractor for this $3.6 million project is Shelly Co. of Thornville. Work will be completed by October.
