Ohio golf course proposed fence upsets residents

DUBLIN, Ohio (AP) — Neighbors whose houses surround a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course in suburban Columbus are upset by a proposal to circle the course with an iron fence.

About 500 people have signed an online petition opposing the plan for the four-foot fence by Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin.

Nearby residents and golf club members say they’ve been told the club wants the fence in place for the upcoming Presidents Cup tournament in the fall to address concerns about vandalism and trespassing.

The club circles the course with a temporary fence for the annual Memorial Tournament in May but residents say it’s the idea of a permanent fence that bothers them.

The golf club isn’t commenting about the proposal.
