Concert band in benefit show for SMARTS

The Youngstown Area Community Concert Band (YACCB) will give a benefit concert for Students Motivated by the Arts (SMARTS) at 7:30 p.m. April 27 in the Ford Family Theater, 260 W. Federal St., downtown Cash donations will be collected at the door.

Rich Morgan of WKBN-TV will narrate the performance of Aaron Copeland’s “Lincoln Portrait.” The 90-minute concert also will include music from “Les Miserables,” “The Wizard of Oz” and Frank Ticheli’s “Amazing Grace.”

Works of art created by the students of SMARTS will be displayed prior to the concert, which is made possible by a grant from the city.

Joseph Pellegrini is the conductor of the YACCB, which performs each year at the YSU Festival of the Arts; Buhl Park in Sharon, Pa.; Summer Concert Series in Mercer, Pa.; Firestone Park in Columbiana, Austintown Park, Morley Pavilion, Boardman Park, and with the Stambaugh Chorus each December to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank.
