Youngstown superintendent will explain the Revitalization/Choice Plan changes

School official to explain student program options

Youngstown

Youngstown parents and students are invited to meet with Superintendent Connie Hathorn this week to learn more about new program options for the 2013-14 school year.

Hathorn will explain the Revitalization/Choice Plan changes, and how those changes allow the district to expand the student program options for students in grades 3 through 12.

YCS families are welcome to attend the meetings at 6 p.m. today at East High School and at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Chaney High School.

Families who live in the Youngstown area, and whose children do not attend a YCS school, may wish to attend a district showcase of programs which will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at Choffin Career Technical Center at 200 E. Wood St.

Light refreshments will be served.

“YCS has unique and exciting specialty programs that are not offered anywhere in the Youngstown area ranging from our new Discovery program to career programs, like aquaponics,” Hathorn said.

“These innovative program choices, combined with free breakfast and lunch, opportunities to earn college credit and funding for education, transportation to/from school and after-school activities are just some of the reasons YCS has become a district defined by family choice.”

Parents will learn more about the application process for the new Discovery Program for students in grades three through eight and as well as Chaney specialty programs — Visual Performing Arts; the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math; and Rayen Early College.

Applications will be available at these meetings.

Program information and applications are also available online at YCSD.org or by calling the Student Services office at 330-744-5769.

The specialty program application deadline is April 19, 2013.

If they can give the kids a free dinner and limo rides to school and jobs that might keep some students in the YCSD.

If not another 300 to 500 will flee to somewhere?

Does retiring and being immediately rehired fit into the "Revitalization" aspect of this plan?
