A 17-year-old Champion girl is in stable condition at Trumbull Memorial Hospital after she was struck by a pickup on Airport Road. The girl was jogging westbound on the road at 9:30 p.m. Friday with her father following behind on a bicycle, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. A 45-year-old man in a 2001 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup also was traveling westbound and hit the girl as she slowed down to walk. Her father wasn’t involved in the collision. Police are investigating the accident.

Seminars for students


The Youngstown State University Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will host workshops this month to help students better understand how they can manage their student-loan debt with repayment and loan forgiveness. The sessions are:

1 p.m. April 23, in the Gallery Room in Kilcawley Center, with a presentation by Becky Davis of Great Lakes Higher Education.

10 a.m. April 24, in the Gallery Room in Kilcawley Center, with a presentation by Jeff Johnston of Sallie Mae.

Wild edible plants

Slippery Rock, Pa.

The Jennings Environmental Education Center, 2951 Prospect Road, will have a “Learn about wild edible plants” program from 1 to 4 p.m. May 11. The free public program, led by Jennings staff, will include an introduction to plant identification and an outdoor walk with instruction in finding and identifying locally common edible plants. This will be followed by an indoor session with participation in preparing and sampling wild foods. The program is designed for people 16 and older. Space is limited, and pre-registration is required by May 3. Those interested may call 724-794-6011.
