SENIOR SIDELIGHTS

Champion S.C.O.P.E. Senior Center, 445 Mahoning Ave., Champion, has planned the following: the center offers breakfast at 10:30 a.m. daily for $5 for members and $6.50 for nonmembers; Mondays, ballroom dancing lessons at noon; Tuesday through Friday, home-cooked lunch for $3. April 19, senior prom at Champion High School from 5 to 9 p.m. with music by Rex Taneri Orchestra and crowning of a king and queen. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. All seniors are welcome. For tickets call 330-847-8179; April 22, Vanessa Chamberlain will speak on skin-cancer detection; and April 25, a presentation on how to keep your mind sharp will be at Kent State Main Campus.

Girard Multi-Generational Center, 443 Trumbull Ave., has planned the following: Monday, morning stretch class at 9:30 a.m., knitting and crocheting at 10 and yoga at 11; Tuesday, exercise with Jude and AARP tax help at 9:30 a.m. and nutrition/healthy living at 10:30; Wednesday, morning stretch class at 9:30, health screenings from 10 to noon and yoga from 3 to 4 p.m.; Thursday, exercise with Jude and AARP tax help at 9:30 a.m. and yoga from 10:15 to 11:15; Friday, morning stretch class at 9:30 a.m., and tai chi at noon. Monday-Friday: coffee bar from 8:30 to 11 a.m., fitness rooms and computer cafe, Monday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; adult basketball and cornhole, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Wii gaming system, air hockey and pingpong also are available. Assistance with HEAP applications is available by appointment only. Meal program is Monday-Friday at 2:30 p.m. For questions or reservations call 330-545-6596.

Park Vista of Youngstown will sponsor: monthly breakfast club at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the Park Vista Gathering Room, 1216 Fifth Ave. Allan May, organized crime historian and author of “Welcome to the Jungle Inn,” will discuss the Trumbull County gambling den of the 1930s and 40s and infamous underworld figures. There is no charge and complimentary breakfast will be provided. Registration is required. April 17 program at 2 p.m. at the Park Vista Gathering Room. Photographer Stephen Chalmers of Lifelong Learning Institute will evaluate his photographs of sites where serial killers left their victims. There is no charge. Registration is required. April 25, Cynthia Crane of Ohio Humanities Council will be the featured speaker at 2 p.m. in the Park Vista Gathering Room. She will present “Mischling: The Story of Divided Lives,” an evaluation of half-Jewish, half-Christian children of the Holocaust. Registration is required. To register call 330-746-2944, ext. 1555.
