About 6,200 Ohio Edison customers in Vienna and Brookfield were without power for a short time Saturday afternoon. Robin Patton, Ohio Edison’s Trumbull County area manager, said the outage, which occurred about 3 p.m., was caused by a tree on a transmission wire. Power was restored about 4:15 p.m., she said.

Arrested in NC

A man wanted for homicide in Warren Township has been arrested in Greensboro, N.C., according to Vindicator broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV. Patrick Lawson Heltzel, 20, of Atlantic Street Northeast, Warren, was wanted for first-degree murder and larceny of an automobile.

Warren Township police contacted Greensboro police about 8 p.m. Friday about Heltzel being in Greensboro, and he was apprehended by police 50 minutes later.

An officer spotted the stolen vehicle Heltzel reportedly was driving, and he was taken into custody without incident.

Warren Township police have been investigating the death of 71-year-old Milton Grumbling as a homicide. Grumbling’s body was found in his home on Kincaid Avenue on Thursday night.

3-mile dog walk

Austintown

There will be a three-mile dog walk at 1 p.m. Saturday at Austintown Township Park, 6000 Kirk Road. Proceeds will go to Angels for Animals. The event is hosted by the advanced sophomore English class at Jackson-Milton High School. The teacher, Angeline Theis, and the students have mapped out a trail for dogs and their owners to walk for three miles. Register at 12:30 p.m. in the park parking lot.

Grant-writing classes

CHAMPION

Grant-writing classes sponsored by Kent State University at Trumbull and Trumbull 100 are from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Technology Building Room 117 on the KSU-Trumbull Campus, 4314 Mahoning Ave. N.W.

Information in the workshops primarily will benefit nonprofit organizations that qualify under IRS code 501(c)(3) to receive private foundation grants. The cost is $20, which includes lunch. Preregistration is required. Call 330-675-8809.

This class covers the key components of developing a proposal for a foundation and provides details about each major element included in every proposal. Attendees will also learn what is needed to create a budget for a special project and all the elements of a detailed budget; and will receive a free copy of “The Grantseeker’s Guide to Winning Proposals,” course handouts and worksheets.

Volunteers needed

New Castle, Pa.

The Crisis Shelter of Lawrence County, 1218 W. State St., is asking for volunteers for the Comcast Cares Work Day from 9 a.m. to noon April 27. Volunteers will join Comcast employees to make a difference in the lives of men, women and children who are victims or survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault. Comcast will make a donation to the Crisis Shelter for every person who volunteers that day.

Individual, family or group volunteers will assist with light construction, painting, gardening, yard work, cleaning, or minor building repairs. Breakfast will be provided between 8:30 and 9 a.m. Register by April 24 by emailing info@crisisshelter.org or calling 724-856-4301.

Annual clean-up

NEWTON FALLS

The city will conduct its annual citywide roadside and park clean-up day at 9 a.m. May 4. Interested groups, organizations or individuals who would like to participate in are invited to join. Sign-in registration will be behind city hall. The city will provide garbage bags, rubber gloves and safety vests. A scrap-tire collection will be from 9 a.m. to noon at the street department on Church Street.
