The Society for Human Resource Management has acknowledged that the bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management at Youngstown State University is renewed for alignment with SHRM’s HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates.
“This recognition further highlights the rigor and quality of our program,” said Jacob Breland, YSU assistant professor of management in the Williamson College of Business Administration. “Considered in the broader context of our dedicated faculty, supportive professional community, enthusiastic students and award-winning student chapter of SHRM, this provides further evidence of the professional competencies and knowledge our students bring to their employers.”
SHRM’s Guidebook and Templates define the minimum HR content areas that should be studied by HR students at the undergraduate and graduate levels advancing the quality of management education programs.
The YSU curriculum focuses on the integration of all aspects of HR with one another, as well as other business functions. Students receive hands-on experience working with actual organizations in addressing HR challenges. The combination of theory and practice gives students a competitive edge and a specialized portfolio to take with them as they move into professional work.
Worldwide, 308 programs in 232 educational institutions have been acknowledged by SHRM as being in alignment with its guides and templates. The guidelines are part of SHRM’s Academic Initiative to define HR education standards taught in university business schools and help universities develop degree programs that follow these standards.
