Teacher injured

A Center Middle School teacher was injured Wednesday during the township police department’s mock-shooter exercise at Boardman High School.

Police Chief Jack Nichols said Jesse McClain, a teacher at Boardman Center, was among a group of teachers who volunteered to portray parents. In recent school shootings, parents have arrived at schools in large numbers, searching for their children.

In the role of a frightened parent, McClain attempted to enter the school building, past a police officer. The officer grabbed him, and McClain fell and was injured. He was taken to the hospital by private vehicle.

“We’re bound to look into it to make sure there was no improper conduct on our part,” the chief said.

Charged with assault

A Scotland Avenue man is charged with assault and abduction, accused of striking his girlfriend and not allowing her to leave his home.

Daniel Shank, 36, is scheduled to appear Tuesday in Mahoning County Court in Boardman. He was arrested Thursday and released after posting bond.

Police were called Thursday morning to Palestine Avenue where the victim was sitting on the side of the road. A concerned resident called police.

The woman declined medical attention. She told police that Shank struck her several times and refused to let her leave the home.

48 drug charges filed

Misty Young, 33, of Southwoods Drive SE, pleaded innocent Thursday to 48 drug charges related to allegations that she stole drugs from her employer, ValleyCare Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital.

Young was secretly indicted by a Trumbull County grand jury and arraigned on the charges in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.

The charges date from June 2012 to October 2012.

In addition to 21 counts of drug theft, she is charged with four counts of deception to obtain a dangerous drug and 23 counts of illegal processing of drug documents.

Judge W. Wyatt McKay set bond at $5,000, and she’ll return to court Thursday before Judge Ronald Rice.

Assault of boy probed

Police investigated a reported assault of a 15-year-old boy Thursday afternoon at Warren G. Harding High School. A police report gave no details but indicated it involved weapons on school grounds.

The report said police were considering charges of felonious assault and illegal conveyance of weapons against a 16-year-old Forest Street Northeast boy. He was arrested and taken to the Trumbull County Juvenile Justice Center.

A request for more information from a police-department spokesman was not returned.
