Senators offer seminar for high-schoolers on military academies Tuesday

Mahoning Valley high school freshmen, sophomores and juniors are invited to attend a seminar about military service academies and the application process on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Jones Room at Youngstown State University’s Kilcawley Center.

U.S. Sens. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) and Rob Portman (R-Ohio) are sponsors of the Northern Ohio Military Academies Informational Seminar.

The event is geared toward those interested in attending West Point, and the Air Force, Naval, Merchant Marine, and Coast Guard academies.

Parents, guidance counselors, and other interested individuals are invited to attend.

The seminar will include military liaisons from each of the military service academies and academy coordinators from the offices of Brown and Portman who each year nominate students for each service academy.

Once nominated, applicants are reviewed by a committee of active and retired military and community leaders.
