Golf outing to raise funds for cancer patient

Staff report

A fundraiser for James a Krokoski, a 55-year old Austintown man who has helped raise thousands of dollars for cancer patients at previous outings, is scheduled for July 20 at Lakeside Golf Course.

The eighth annual Sunshine Benefit Golf Outing will include a steak fry and live music at Ball Busters Sports Bar, 3661 Mahoning Ave., one of its sponsors. Registration will be at 7 a.m. and tee-off will be at 9.

The outing is a three-person scramble that includes a continental breakfast and lunch at the turn. The dinner consists of steak, corn on the cob, baked potato and desserts. During the dinner prizes for hole events, 50-50 raffle and raffle prizes will be awarded.

The cost is $225 per team. In addition to food and cocktails, participants will receive a T-shirt. The dinner for those who don’t play golf is $30 per person or $50 for two. The cost of sponsoring a hole is $100 and $50 for a program ad.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to Krokoski, who was diagnosed with oral cancer. He has undergone two surgeries at Cleveland Clinic. He and his wife, Kathy, have five children.

A 10-member committee, including Krokoski, which is hosting the outing, is a volunteer group that has reached out to businesses and the community since 2006 to help cancer patients and their families in the Mahoning Valley defray medical costs. They have raised nearly $65,000.

The committee is accepting gifts for prizes, monetary donations and the purchase of advertising ceiling tiles at the tavern.

To participate in any way visit Ball Busters or call co-chairmen Mark Kellerman at 330-397-7652, Dale Brady at 571-292-0264 or Johnny Mashiska at 330-519-6753.
