Gay organization gears up for first fundraiser
The Mahoning Valley Gay/Straight Coalition is selling tickets for its first fundraiser.
Scott Fullerton, coalition founder and president, said the goal of the event is to raise awareness and funds for one of the newest gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender organizations in the Valley. He said the funds will help the nonprofit perform charitable endeavors in the Valley. Fullerton said the coalition already has donated $750 to YOUnify, a theatre company for GLBT [gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender] youths in the Mahoning Valley, and he hopes to continue with other efforts.
“The goal of the whole event is to bring everyone together from all different communities to support one another and Youngstown,” said Fullerton.
The fundraiser is scheduled from 7 to 11 p.m. May 10 at the Regency House Banquet Center in Austintown. The dinner will include a buffet, cash bar and a GLBT talent show.
Fullerton said tickets can be purchased at the Lemon Grove on West Federal Street on April 19. Tickets are $20, while tickets at the event are $25. Tickets also can be purchased at mvgaystraightcoalition.com
According to its website, the coalition hopes to unite and serve the Mahoning Valley GLBT community and its allies. The organization also provides resources and support to the GLBT community through fund raising activities that move the community forward. The group also engages straight supporters to defend the GLBT community in an active and equal partnership.
