Katie Glass will be keynote speaker at the 16th annual Edward W. Powers Women in Science and Engineering Career Workshop and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Lecture Series on April 13 at Youngstown State University.
Glass is a mechanical engineer working as a senior scientist at Proctor & Gamble in Family Care Research and Development supporting the Charmin and Puffs brands in Cincinnati. Glass is a YSU alumna, receiving a bachelor of engineering degree in mechanical engineering and a doctorate of philosophy degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities.
At the Career Day, Glass will discuss her job and touch upon careers in engineering available today. At the STEM lecture, she will discuss some of her work at P&G in the lecture: “Atoms to the Enterprise: An Evolution of Modeling and Simulation.” The Women in Science and Engineering Career Day will be from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. April 13. Panel discussions will be in the morning and hands-on activities and lab demonstrations will be in the afternoon in Kilcawley Center at YSU. The workshop is designed to expose young women in grades six through 12 to career opportunities in science and technology. Panel discussions will be led by area women on many careers. Hands-on activities and demonstrations will cover such topics as biology, physics, chemistry, computer science, engineering, forensics and physical therapy.
The workshop is open to all middle and high school girls from Mahoning and Trumbull counties and Western Pennsylvania. Students will attend two workshops and two demonstrations of their choice.
Parents can receive college planning and financial aid information and take campus tours while their daughters participate in the workshop.
Registration must be submitted by Thursday. The workshop and lunch are free to all students.
