The PTA at Woodside Elementary School sponsored a spring dance for students in grades K-3 in the school gymnasium March 28.
The PTA sponsors a spring dance every year with a different theme. This year’s theme was cartoons and many students took the chance to be their favorite character for a day. The most popular costumes at the dance were Disney princesses, such as Belle, Aurora, and Cinderella.
“I’ve been working on the dance for well over a month,” said this year’s spring dance PTA head, Angie Melia. “In order to make something like this happen, the PTA meets and we have an idea about how we would like it to work and then we vote on it.
We have to choose decorations, games and a craft, all to fit the theme of the night. It has been a lot of hard work, but to get the kids here and see them dancing and having fun, it’s worth it.”
In addition to a variety of food and drinks, brought by parent volunteers, the dance offered many different games, such as corn hole, ring toss and bowling. Dancing, made possible through this year’s dance DJ, Kim Gadd, was a popular activity among children, especially when such popular songs as “Gangnum Style” by Psy or the “Cha Cha Slide” were played.
For many students, the spring dance was their first dance ever and the PTA made the event a success for students at Woodside Elementary School.
