Students take first at Physics Olympics

Neighbors | Submitted .Poland High School physics students placed first at the Youngstown State Physics Olympics on March 23.

Poland High School physics students placed first at the Youngstown State Physics Olympics on March 23, led by Poland physics teacher Rebecca Sobinovsky.

Sixteen schools participated in events such as bridge building, ping-pong launchers, mystery problems, music making and hot water making.

In the Mystery Problem category, Abby Begezda and Joe Petrolla placed first. Placing second in the quiz show were Patrick Lyons, David Mendenhall and James Ethridge.

Connor McFadden placed second in the flying machine. Placing third in the egg drop were Rachel Jeswald and Julianna Patrick.

In the mousetrap race car, David Mendenhall placed third. Placing third in the ping pong launcher were Connor McFadden, Noah Ulrey, Hayden Martin and Mitch Geiger. In the physics hang-ups poster contest, Alison Begala was third.
