The new $27 million Niles McKinley High School will officially open to students Tuesday morning.

The 123,000-square-foot complex consists of 27 academic classrooms along with other sections designed for art, instrumental and vocal music and a gymnasium. It accommodates 675 students.

A $56 million building program financed by a voter-approved bond issue and funds from the Ohio School Facilities Commission covered the costs of the high school and two elementary schools, which are still under construction.

Interim schools Superintendent Frank Danso said the public is invited to relive memories inside the old McKinley high school adjacent to the new building on Monday with a “final walk-through” from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The structure, built in 1957, will be demolished later this year.

Danso said a veterans organization will mark the school opening Tuesday with a flag-raising ceremony at 9 a.m.
