Local twirlers earns honors at competition

The Northern Strut Twirlers competed in the Marching Auxiliaries Regional Competition at Westerville Central High School in Westerville, Ohio.

Monica Mattiussi (Austintown) Alyssa Blosser, Randi Roof, Shannon Chaffee, Megan Howard, Cassidy Oyler, Kathryn Rosinski, Tara Schuster, Jessica Yozwiak and Madi Zickefoose of Boardman, Anngel Benson, Jenna Benson, Caylee Catcott, Adele Colonna, Amanda Orr, and Alyssa Thomas of Canfield; Madeline Crish, Karlie Kowal, Dina Notareschi, Rachel Stahl of Poland and Autumn Busse represented Northern Strut Twirling Teams at the competition.

In the team twirl category, Anngel Benson, Jenna Benson, Chaffee, Notareschi, Oyler and Roof received a Superior I rating and were also awarded the Choreography Award and Best in Class Award.

In the twirling ensemble division, Crish, Mattiussi and Rosinski received a Superior I rating and won the senior ensemble division.

In the high school plus division, Howard, Orr and Yozwiak received a Superior I rating and won with their twirling ensemble.

In the color guard solo category, all six performers received Superior I ratings and Rosinski won the 11-12 grade division, Kowal was first runner up, Thomas was second runner-up and Zickefoose was third runner-up.

In the 9-10 grade division, Blosser was third runner-up and Busse was fourth runner-up.

In the twirling solo category, all twirlers received a Superior I rating. Performers who also earned placements are: Yozwiak, high school plus winner, Jenna Benson, second runner-up; in the 11-12 grade division Crish was the winner, Chaffee first runner-up, Mattiussi second runner-up, Rosinski third runner-up, Zickefoose fourth runner-up.

In the 9-10th grade division, Schuster was second runner-up, Oyler and Roof tied for third runner-up. In the 7-8th grade division, Stahl was second runner-up; in the 1st-3rd grade division, Catcott was the winner; and in the PreK-K division, Colonna was the winner.

Northern Strut Twirling Teams, established in 1995, is a local twirling group that specializes in both recreational and competitive baton twirling, recreational and competitive flag twirling, and majorette/color guard preparation.
