At a recent recognition awards ceremony at the Consolidated Activities Center of Youngstown Air Force Reserve Station, 3976 King Graves Road, Col. Walter M. Duzzny, U.S. Army retired, was presented with the Military Officers Association of America Ambassador Award by Lt. Col. Michael Wisniewski, U.S. Army retired.
The Ambassador Award was instituted by this chapter to recognize members and community leaders for their exemplary civic and military service to the local chapter, their community and the country.
Duzzny is a charter member of the Mahoning and Shenango Valley Chapter of MOAA and served as its first president. He was instrumental in founding the local chapter in November 2011. It received its charter in February 2012.
During his tenure, Duzzny chartered almost 60 members into the chapter, resulting in recognition to the chapter as a National Category One winner for recruiting new members.
During his military career Duzzny was commander of the 1654th Civil Affairs Group and the 437th Military Police Battalion and Provost Marshal for the State of Ohio. He currently is the president of the Mahoning Chapter of the Reserve Officers Association and a board member of the Northeast Ohio Committee for Employers Support of the National Guard and Reserve.
He had been director of Mahoning County Emergency Management Agency and 911 Communications for 33 years, when he retired. He is president of Emergency Planning Associates, vice president of J. Tyler Enterprise LLC, and vice president of Impact Educational Resources. He taught at Youngstown and Kent State universities.
Duzzny and his wife, Kathleen, reside in Austintown.
