Boardman librarian Katherina Matasic led a story time for 4- and 5-year-olds all about monkeys March 5. The story time began with a classic book about monkeys — “Curious George Visits the Zoo” by Margaret and H. A. Rey.
In this adventure of Curious George, the Man takes George to the zoo to see all of the animals. When the monkeys at the zoo get excited and steal a child’s balloon, it’s up to George to save the day.
Matasic also read “Two Little Monkeys” by Mem Fox and “Monkey Colors” by Darrin Lunde, which was about all of the colors that different species of monkeys come in and their names. After the story, Matasic asked the children which kind of monkey was their favorites. Some children liked the smaller monkeys and some liked the larger ones, but the colorful monkeys were the group favorite.
Matasic also prepared several monkey activities for children at the library to do, including “Underneath the Monkey Tree,” “Monkey See, Monkey Do,” “I’m a Little Monkey” and “Five Little Monkeys.”
The story time ended with a craft of coloring monkeys and gluing them onto a coconut tree cutout.
