Mocha House joins fund for autism
The Mocha House in Warren and Boardman have joined with the Mikeyfied Fund for Adult Autism to raise awareness and funds by having one-ounce gourmet coffee packets available for $5 each. Proceeds will benefit the Mikeyfied Fund through April, Autism Awareness Month,
In addition, children’s book author Beverly DiVieste’s works will available for purchase at The Warren Mocha House with proceeds also benefitting the fund.
Buhl Park hosts autism conference
The Connections Autism Program of Sharon Regional Health System’s sixth annual autism conference, “Autism Spectrum Disorder, Psychopharmacology and Parent Training,” will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 18 at the Casino at Buhl Park.
The keynote speaker is Benjamin L. Handen, PhD, a licensed psychologist and a board certified behavior analyst. He is an associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine, and is the director of research and clinical services at the Center for Autism and Developmental Disorders at UPMC.
The conference is designed for families, wraparound staff, social workers, counselors, therapists, teachers, BCBAs, speech therapists, and occupational therapists. HMHP six-week weight program
Humility of Mary Health Partners registered dietitians trained in adult weight-management are offering SlimDown, a six-week weight management program that focuses on lifestyle changes in food, activities and behaviors, starting the third week of April.
Classes will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, April 17 to May 22, in Community Room 2 of the D.D. and Velma Davis Family YMCA, 45 McClurg Road, Boardman; and Thursdays, April 18 to May 23, at St. Joe’s at the Mall, Eastwood Mall behind Sears. The cost is $40 for new participants and $20 for repeat participants.

Hospice of the Valley volunteers needed
A Hospice of the Valley volunteer training class begins April 12 at Hospice House, 9803 Sharrot Road. Classes are 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Fridays through May 10.
Volunteers learn what Hospice of the Valley’s team of doctors, nurses, social workers and chaplains do for patients and their families and how volunteers fit into that team. Volunteers are needed for all areas of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties and western Pennsylvania. Volunteers are assigned to patients closer to their homes.
