Landfill takes waste despite work stoppage

Drivers with Teamsters Local 377 have returned to their jobs, Republic Services/Allied Waste reported this morning. However, union workers at the company’s Carbon Limestone Landfill remain on strike. The landfill is staffed and accepting waste despite the work stoppage.

In a statement, Doug Dunn, general manager of Allied Waste in Youngstown, said the company will continue to negotiate in good faith toward a “workable contract agreement.”

The next negotiating session will take place on Tuesday.

Workers walked off the job last Thursday, affecting trash pick-up throughout the area. They cited unfair labor practices and a contract dispute as their motivation.
