Sales of the Chevrolet Cruze increased by nearly 8 percent in March

General Motors Co. reported this morning that sales of the Chevrolet Cruze increased by nearly 8 percent in March when compared to 2012.

The Lordstown-built Cruze broke a two month sales decline when the company delivered 23,620 units last month, versus 21,607 for the period last year.

Overall, GM sold 245,950 in the U.S. during March, up 6 percent, compared to last year.

Retail sales increased 4 percent, while fleet sales were up 12 percent, accounting for 27 percent of the company’s total sales.

“GM delivered its best March sales in five years thanks to a strengthening economy and new products, and we are expecting our third consecutive increase in market share versus last year,” said Kurt McNeil, vice president of U.S. sales operations.

Cadillac and Buick continued to be the company’s top-performing brands, both exceeding 20 percent sales gains in March. Models across the Chevrolet brand essentially remained equal to a year ago, GM reported Tuesday.
