CANFIELD

Division: II.

Head coach: Ray Melewski, second year.

2012: 20-7.

Projected starters: Abby Baker, pitcher, senior; Amelia Manenti, catcher, freshman; Sydney Opladen, first base, senior; Alexa Schmidt, second base, senior; Lynnae Whitehead, third base, sophomore; Rachel Tinkey, shortstop, sophomore; Ali Prologo, left field, junior; Kayley Keller, center field, senior; Kaci Hyde, right field, senior.

Outlook: The Cardinals lost three starters to graduation. With six seniors, Melewski expects good things. He said the team’s goal is go farther than last season (district final loss to Poland). He sees Poland, Canfield, Howland and Austintown Fitch as the top teams in the All-American Conference American Division.

POLAND

Division: II.

Head coach: Matt Campbell, first season.

2012: 27-3, All-American Conference American Division champions, state semifinalists.

Roster: Anna Barnhart, outfield/second base, senior; Jess Rutana, second base, senior; Kasie Serich, pitcher/outfield, senior; Meredith Tesone, outfield, senior; Meredith Testa, catcher, senior; Marissa Trevis, outfield, senior; Phoebe Bush, outfield/catcher, junior; Taylor Miokovic, first base/pitcher; Ally Deemer, pitcher/infield, sophomore; Arlia Duarte, third base, sophomore; Aleah Hughers, pitcher/infield, sophomore; Amanda Kabetso, outfield, sophomore.

Outlook: Campbell takes over for Reid Lamport who retired from coaching after leading the Bulldogs to three state tournament appearances and the 2011 championship. Poland must replace pitcher Erin Gabriel (Tennessee) and third baseman/pitcher Jenna Modic (Miami of Ohio). Testa, Miokovic and Trevis are returning starters. Hughes, Duarte and Deemer are young but represented Poland in the Little League World Series in 2010.

CHAMPION

Division: III.

Head coach: Cheryl Weaver, 14th season (258-72).

2012: 24-3, 10-0 All-American Conference Blue, state champions.

Projected starters: Sierra Blackson, catcher, senior; Mackenzie Kiser, outfield, senior; Brooke Culler, shortstop, senior; Kayla Hunt, pitcher, senior; Kenzie Goranitis, second base, senior; Haylee Gardiner, pitcher/third base, sophomore; Leanne Brown, outfield, senior; Page Davenport, outfield, junior; Brittany Allen, third base, sophomore.

Outlook: Third baseman Darian Rogers is out for the season after suffering a knee injury during basketball season. After winning two straight state championships, the Golden Flashes must replace pitcher Lindsay Swipas and several others who graduated. Weaver says hitting will be a strength. Lack of playing experience is a concern. Weaver expects Lakeview and Girard to challenge for the league title.

GIRARD

Division: III.

Head coach: Renny Paolone, 10th season (95-115).

2012: 22-7, 10-2 All-American Conference Blue.

Projected starters: Meco Maderitz, pitcher, junior; McKenzie, first base, senior; Taylor Bell, second base, sophomore; Kylie Kulon, third base, senior; Alli Rose, shortstop, senior; Callie Jay, center field, senior; Annie Parillo, catcher, sophomore; Gabby Cario, catcher, freshman; Karley Byrne, left field, freshman; Marissa Hollis, left field, senior; McKenzie Olesky, right field, sophomore; Justine Boccerei, right field, sophomore; Brooke Bada, right field, sophomore.

Others: Abby Regula, infield, sophomore; Allie Diernbach, infield, sophomore.

Outlook: Paolone says Maderitz is one of the Mahoning Valley’s best pitchers. Kulon’s batting average topped .450 last season. How well the sophomores develop is a concern. Paolone says Champion remains the team to beat, but Girard and Newton Falls should challenge.

LAKEVIEW

2012: 12-5, shared All-American Conference White title with Struthers.

Projected starters: Alyssa Nicholas, catcher, senior; Taylor Waid, pitcher, junior; Lauren Cassassa, first base, junior; Brooke Waid, second base, freshman; Laura Innocenzi, shortstop, junior; Caitlin McDivitt, third base, junior; Haley Ball, left field, senior; Rachelle Calvin, center field, junior; Kat Scott, center field, junior; Hannah Petrosky, right field, junior.
