Browns deal McCoy to 49ers

Published: Mon, April 1, 2013 @ 5:14 p.m.

The Cleveland Browns traded quarterback Colt McCoy to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a late-round draft pick, according to league sources.

McCoy became expendable last week when the Browns signed veteran quarterback Jason Campbell to a two-year contract.

This was a gift to Colt. He was saddled with poor receivers and changes to coaches and offenses nearly every year. Now he is damaged goods with a history of concussions and only worthy of a trade for a # 5 draft pick.

Maybe he might match up better with some of the talent on the Niners. McCoy doesn't have the greatest arm in the world and he could use more work on the mechanics at QB. But then, making a trade OR going into free agency is still a crapshoot. San Fran might find a better way to make use of him...or not.
