YOUNGSTOWN — State Rep. Robert F. Hagan of Youngstown, D-60th, wants city council to have public hearings on a proposal to lease city-owned land for oil and gas drilling before the legislative body votes on it.
Councilman Mike Ray, D-4th and chairman of the public utilities committee, said council plans to discuss the matter as a committee or as the full council at either a public meeting or hearing.
A decision is expected shortly with the meeting or hearing to take place later this week, Ray said.
Council decided last Wednesday to postpone a vote on leasing land for drilling.

Youngstown's very own freedom fighter of the dependent class. King of the Lemon Drop, trying once again to "Keep the receipient man down."
No one is going to buy into this bent politician's latest grab for attention. He is so blinded by his ego and self preservation, he cannot see that the common taxpayer of his jurisdiction realizes that the Utica wet gas under Youngstown is the last chance to place Youngstown back on the hill of industrial might.
As the Mayor pleaded that we are out of money, this politician has the audacity to halt the people of Youngstown in realiizing the wealth underneath them. Is it a mystery how these types have led Youngstown down the path to a third world urban center?
I'm more concerned about the City's financial faultlines shifting than about well controlled gas drilling .
Hagan is happiest when times are bad and people are down. He will throw every wrench in the way possible to stop job growth and development in our area. He could care less about the need for people to get trained and educated for the new jobs that are being created.
utica....do shills for gas and oil like yourself get paid a lot?
