Obese Ohio inmate wants execution stopped

Published: Mon, September 17, 2012 @ 3:42 p.m.

COLUMBUS (AP) — A condemned Ohio inmate who weighs at least 480 pounds wants his upcoming execution delayed, saying he’s too heavy for the state’s lethal-injection process.

Ronald Post, who shot and killed a hotel clerk in northern Ohio almost 30 years ago, says his weight, vein access, scar tissue and other medical problems raise the likelihood of severe problems with an execution.

Lawyers for the 53-year-old Post also said in their federal court filing Friday the inmate is so big the execution gurney might not hold him.

Post is scheduled to die Jan. 16 for the 1983 shooting death of hotel desk clerk Helen Vantz in Elyria.

Awww, you poor, fat slob. Was Helen given a comfortable gurney to lay down on? Was she given her last rights? Was she given a chance to speak her final words or to say goodbye to her loved ones? Was she given a choice of what she would like to have to eat before being robbed of her life? Did she get to peacefully go to sleep before her life was taken from her? So, you're a little fat and your death might not be the peaceful slumber you would like it to be. TOO BAD!!!! Just be glad that the law doesn't allow for killers to be extunguished in the same manner as their victims.

It is utterly amazing how you people never miss an opportunity to expound on how great state sponsored murder is, but when Vindy reported on a man who was on death row for 20 years and was released because he was innocent. Silent as a grave. Not one single comment. Guess you don't like to be reminded of the innocent people who have been murdered by the state that you applauded.

This man has spent 30 years in prison and nobody has given a care about him. Let him rot. Keep our collective hands clean.

Get this FAT A@# coward veins ready. To bad they don't have the electric chair for this cold blooded murderer! He wants a peaceful death unlike the death he bestowed on Helen Vantz.

""On December 15, 1983, Post murdered 53-year-old Helen Vantz at the Slumber Inn in Elyria. Mrs. Vantz was the desk clerk at the hotel. Post shot Mrs. Vantz twice in the back of the head and stole various items, including a bank deposit bag of money ($100) and Mrs. Vantz's purse. Post confessed to Elyria police detectives.""

"""William Vantz, the youngest of Helen Vantz’s three children, declined to comment Tuesday, but wrote in a letter earlier this year that there was no reason for Post to have killed his mother, whom he described as “a loving, caring woman.”

“She would have given him the money and not put up a fight but he did the cowardly thing, shooting her from behind while she worked on the nightly receipts,” William Vantz wrote. “She probably didn’t even know he was behind her.”

Vantz also wrote that Post’s execution is long overdue.

(((This is for you LTMAC. If the roles were reversed would you feel the same way if some cold blooded murderer did that to your mom????? )))

“Some have said that since it’s been so long just let him stay in prison for the remainder of his natural life. No! I am as committed to this as the day he took her life,” Vantz wrote. “I will never forgive or forget what he took from us.”

This ridiculous notion that convicted murders and rapists have rights has run its course when this guy can sit on his butt on Death Row for 30 years, gorging himself on food the taxpayers buy for him, then claim he's too "big" to be executed. OK, put him on bread and water until he drops enough weight that he CAN be executed. Or, bring back the firing squad - "bigger" just means an easier target.

I honestly don't know what I'd do, however, I hope I'd have the strength of conviction not to condone another murder for vengeance.

Funny how its the Atheist that has a problem with killing. Not all the good Christians out there.

How ridiculous. Don't much care about what his pain and suffering is going to be caused because of his obesity. Cold blooded killer. I agree, Lifes2short, get the veins ready.
