Police pursuit ends in crash

WEST MIDDLESEX, PA.

A male driver was taken to UPMC Horizon Hospital in Farrell, Pa., and then flown by helicopter to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown following a 3 a.m. Sunday police pursuit along state Route 18 in Mercer County.

A Mercer County 911 supervisor said she believes the county sheriff’s department initiated the chase, which was joined by South Pymatuning, Hermitage and Southwest Mercer County Regional police.

The chase began near Rutledge Road in Pymatuning Township and ended when the vehicle being pursued crashed into a retaining wall at Walnut Street in West Middlesex, the supervisor said.

No other information was available Sunday evening.
