Help a Teacher receives donation

Staff report

Bernard Repasky, executive director of Help A Teacher Teach, got a call from the local office of the Ohio Lottery Commission informing him that HATT would receive a donation of school supplies to contribute toward their mission.

That mission is to fill the requests of full-time kindergarten through 12th-grade teachers in Mahoning County for needed classroom supplies and materials on behalf of students.

As part of the Lottery Commission’s regional “Stuff the Bus” outreach efforts this past summer, 17 local office employees, under the guidance of Executive Secretary Ruth Stillerman and Regional Sales Manager Greg Barber, collected more than $350 worth of school supplies to donate to a local, education-related charity.

“Our decision to give back to the community, and in particular to education-related charities, made our collection drive a win-win situation for us and for Help A Teacher Teach. We are happy to help,” Barber said.

Repasky agreed.

“The timing of the Lottery Commission’s donation at the start of the 2012-13 school year couldn’t be better,” he said. “We are grateful for the opportunity to work with them and for the opportunity to share the supplies with area teachers and students.”
