St. Luke Catholic Church, 5235 South Ave., will host a mission, “The Many Faces of Love,” at 7 p.m. Sept. 23-25 with a speaker, the Rev. Patrick W. Collins.
Father Collins, who has a doctorate, is an author, preacher, musician and university professor.
He has produced 45 television programs, and a number of videos, among them “Thomas Merton: Man, Monk, Myth with Music.”
He presents various kinds of retreats, missions and workshops, including what he calls “spiritual concerts” that combine texts and tunes for spiritual insight and growth. He calls it “music with a message.”
Presentations will be Sept. 23, “Faces Near Us,” based on M. Scott Peck’s “The Road Less Traveled;” Sept. 24, “Strangers to Us,” based on Parker Palmer’s book “The Company of Strangers; and Sept. 25, works of Thomas Merton in “Our Own Faces.”
Father Collins also will preside and preach at the weekend Masses. He will conduct the following sessions: Merton retreat from noon to 3 p.m. next Saturday; “Breakfast and Broadway Through the Ages” after the 8:30 a.m. Mass on Sept. 24; and “Open Forum: Faith & Life Intersect” after the 8 a.m. Mass on Sept. 25.
The sessions are free and open to the public.
