Waterline break closes Austintown school

Published: Tue, September 11, 2012 @ 12:03 p.m.

AUSTINTOWN — A main waterline break closed Lynn Kirk Elementary in Austintown today.

Mal Culp, district supervisor of facilities and grounds, said the break occurred early this morning in the main line off Kirk Road. He said the grounds crew found a quarter-sized hole in the pipe, which is now dug out and being repaired.

“The break was likely due to the age of the line, which was the original put in when the school was built in 1956,” Culp said. “We will have the line fixed today, and classes should resume [Wednesday.]”

Culp said Lynn Kirk sustained no damage, and water didn’t enter the school.
