CINCINNATI (AP) — Apollo 11 pilot Michael Collins and Apollo 17 mission commander Eugene Cernan will take part in Thursday’s national memorial service in Washington for Neil Armstrong.
A spokesman for the Ohio native’s family says the astronauts will offer tributes with NASA Administrator Charles Bolden and former Treasury Secretary John Snow. Collins was the command module pilot for Armstrong’s historic 1969 walk on the moon. Cernan is the last man to walk on the moon.
Jazz singer Diana Krall is among musical performers for the service at the Washington National Cathedral. The service will be broadcast live on NASA Television and streamed online at the space agency’s and cathedral’s websites.
Armstrong died Aug. 25 at age 82. The family has said the former Navy pilot’s burial would be at sea.
