Romney plans to keep some parts of Obama health care law intact

Associated Press

WASHINGTON

Mitt Romney says his pledge to repeal President Barack Obama’s health law doesn’t mean that young adults and those with medical conditions would no longer be guaranteed health care.

The Republican presidential nominee says he’ll replace the law with his own plan. He told NBC’s “Meet the Press” today that the plan he worked to pass while governor of Massachusetts deals with medical conditions and with young people.

Romney says he doesn’t plan to repeal all of Obama’s signature health care plan. He says there are a number of initiatives he likes in the Affordable Care Act that he would keep in place if elected president.

Obama has been campaigning on the benefits in his plan for the uninsured, women and young adults.

Mitt Romney must fight against MItt Romney's policies if they have anything to do with President Obama.

Just ask Mitt. He's the one who invented it, before he was against it.

No one understands Romney care either. He needs to tell us what his plan is instead of just saying there are parts of Obama care he would keep in place.

They can't handle the TRUTH!!

Mitt's a Flip-Flopper and he's going to raise taxes $2,000 a year on the middle class, so he can give another tax break to those "job creators."

If Obama were white, and had the name Bill jones, he'd win by a landslide.A bunch of racist biggots out there are showing their true colors.

> > If Obama were white < <

Skin color is not the issue with Obama, it is his thinking that is dangerous to the fiscal status of this country.

This has nothing to do with skin color. A white-skinned fascist will confiscate my income just as quick as the current dark-skinned fascist will do.

I suppose it's a good sign that Mitt recognizes people with medical conditions need medical care. Maybe he's not as far out of touch as we think. ;)

Romney said "there are a number of things that I like" in the law.: to make sure people with pre-existing conditions can still have guaranteed coverage. To make sure young people can stay on their parents' plan "up to whatever age they might like" -- currently, that age is 26.

Obamacare: 2,700 pages of which 7 of every 10 people did not want. A tax according to the Supreme Court.

President Obama, September 12, 2008
“I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes.”

You think the Obamacare tax increases don't affect you? Here are the taxes that affect us today:

1. Obamacare imposed a $2,500 Cap on Health-Care FSA Contributions in 2013.
2, Higher Threshold for Itemized Medical Expense Deductions. Right now, you can claim an itemized deduction for medical expenses exceeding 7.5% of AGI. In 2013, the hurdle is raised to 10%.
3. The Individual Mandate Excise Tax. Starting in 2014, anyone not buying “qualifying” health insurance must pay an income tax surtax. It goes up each year until 2016 and beyond when a couple would pay a tax of the higher of $1,360 or 2.5% of adjusted gross income.
4. The Health Savings Account Withdrawal Penalty. Was 10% now 20%.
5. The Cadillac Health Insurance Plan Tax. The finance committee defines "Cadillac" as any plan with premiums higher than $8,000 for individuals or $21,000 for families. These figures include everything you and your employer spend on health care except for the deductible: premiums for medical (the portions paid by you and by your employer), dental, and vision coverage, as well as any money you put into a flexible spending account.
6. Over-The-Counter Drugs. Eff 1/1/11, employees with health savings accounts, flexible spending accounts or health reimbursement accounts have no longer been able to use pre-tax funds stashed in these accounts to buy over-the-counter medicines without a doctor’s prescription.
7 Beginning January 1, 2013, ObamaCare imposes a 3.8% Medicare tax on unearned income of “high-income” taxpayers which could apply to proceeds from the sale of single family homes, townhouses, co-ops, condominiums, and even rental income, depending on your individual circumstances and any capital gains tax exclusions. Importantly, the “high income” thresholds are not indexed for inflation so will reach increasing numbers of middle-class taxpayers over time. - this will affect our children and grandchildren.
This new ObamaCare tax is the first time the government will apply a 3.8 percent tax on unearned income. This new tax on home sales and unearned income and other Medicare taxes raise taxes more than $210 billion to pay for ObamaCare.

In the words of Nancy Pelosi "We have to pass the bill so you can find out what is in it:.

@ 76Ytown :

You're correct on the tax fiasco that Obamacare creates.

Like the Alternative Minimum Tax, another concoction of Democrats who despise wealth and success, these taxes will eventually hit middle and lower income folks.

This will be caused by inflation raising their income and triggering the taxes. Inflation, currently low, has no place to go but up when all of the money injected by the "stimulus" attempts works its way through the monetary system.

Is it ObamaCare or RomneyCare that Mitt-Flopper is changing his mind about? He LIKED the Affordable Care Act so much that he passed it when he was Governor of Massachusetts. He then LOVED it and bragged about what a great success it was! Then he towed the party line and said how he HATED it when it was linked to Obama and how bad it was! Now that he is sliding in the polls and the Affordable Care Act is gaining popularity with voters, he is FLIP-FLOPPING AGAIN.
