Hostage situation fizzles

YOUNGSTOWN

Police quickly ended what was initially believed to be a hostage situation today before the matter became something serious.

Officers were called to the East Avondale location at about 7:15 p.m. for what officers believed to be a hostage situation. Negotiators were summonsed to the home and the street was blocked in both directions.

Police said an elderly East Avondale resident, who has medical issues and was intoxicated, heard someone walking around his home and emerged from the home with a shotgun. The man went back into the house, but came out peacefully after police converged on the area.

The man was questioned by police and released at the scene. No arrests were made.

Sounds like Vindy got its facts wrong in its eagerness for a sensational headline. Be more careful - the South Side lynch mob never sleeps . Take this sarcastic comment from Hulkster on your initial story, for example :

"Offer the guy amnesty and give him a crack pipe to smoke during negotiations. We musn't make him angry. He needs to be treated with compassion."

Copycats are in effect! most of the copycats aren't on drugs. THEY'RE JUST FED UP WITH A CERTAIN TYPE OF PEOPLE! Hopefully some things won't be copied. because it would be devastating.

There was a guy thought to be holed up in a house here in Florida. 30 yes 30 various police units were called out. Lined the street for blocks neighbors had to get out. They shot tear gas in the house and could not get any response. Because there was no one in the house !!! A cop found him nearby at a gas station!! Talk about over kill, it would have been a good time to hold up a dollar store or bank. Cops were busy playing Barney Fife.

Hulkster

Given the man was just going about his lawful business , I would have said & done nothing .

It is not illegal to possess a shotgun on your own property , with lawful purpose . Apparently, Police were satisfied it was lawful.
