WARREN — Katherine Melnick, who was brutally beaten and blinded in 1988 at her Wick Street Southeast home in an attack that also killed her husband, George Melnick, has died.

Katherine Melnick, 88, died Tuesday in an area nursing home.

One of the two men who attacked the Melnicks, Christopher W. Daniel, 42, was denied parole in September 2011 after serving 22 years in prison for involuntary manslaughter, aggravated burglary and aggravated robbery.

He will be eligible for possible parole again in 2015.

Authorities said Daniel attacked Katherine Melnick with a brick, while Daniel’s co-defendant, Andre Williams, attacked George Melnick, then 65, also with a brick. Williams, 45, is on death row.

Mr. & Mrs. Melnick were friends of my parents. This was such a senseless and mean spirited act. These two human waists should rot inside the walls of prisons. When they pass they should be berried in the prison grave yard. They should never have a right to leave in this life or the next.
