Mom and son night

Boardman

Boardman Park will host a Mom and Son Date Knight from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Lariccia Family Community Center. Guests are invited to make memories eating, dancing, making crafts and posing for a professional photo as a keepsake of the night. The boys at the event, age 3 to 8, are welcome to dress as their favorite hero from comics, television, movies or books, or may choose to wear dress attire. Tickets are on sale at the park office from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Cash or check only. The office cannot take phone reservations. Cost will be $15 per couple and $5 per each additional child for Boardman residents or $18 per couple and $5 per each additional child for nonresidents.

Volunteers sought

WARREN

HandsOn Volunteer Network of the Valley is looking for volunteers to install smoke detectors in homes in the city Oct. 27. Ten people were killed in Warren in two fires in 2011 and 2012 that involved homes without working fire detectors. Call 330-782-5877, ext. 106.

Halloween party

Youngstown

Parto’s Golf Center and Pumpkin Patch, 2231 Coitsville-Hubbard Road, will host a free Halloween party from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday. The event will feature face-painting, pumpkin decorating, games and treats. Guests are urged to wear costumes. Call 330-743-6718.

Shooting into house

YOUNGSTOWN

Police are investigating a late-night shooting into an East Side home by a man accused of throwing bricks through the windows of the same house just a few days ago. Police received a call that an unwanted man was at a home in the 1000 block of Jacobs Road about 10:30 p.m. Saturday causing a disturbance and threatening people with a gun. Moments later police received another call saying the man had fired shots into the house. Police are searching for the shooter.
