A double standard against gays
Recently Archbishop John J. Myers of the Archdiocese of Newark, N.J., issued a statement that gay marriage threatens religious freedom and Catholics who don’t believe these teachings should refrain from taking Holy Communion.
Along with millions of faithful gay parishioners worldwide, gays and lesbians have provided dedicated service as priests and nuns following their spiritual calling. The church’s double standard has always existed. Anti-gay doctrines serve to promote hatred and bigotry.
It’s time that the Catholic Church steps out of its medieval closet and disassociates itself from this hypocritical double standard.
