Mount Calvary Pentecostal Church, 1812 Oak Hill Ave., will celebrate the second pastoral anniversary of Suffragan Bishop C. Shawn Tyson on Oct. 21 with the theme “Following the Vision - Fulfilling the Dream” at the 11 a.m. service and an evening musical celebration at 7 p.m.

Featured will be Bishop Lambert W. Gates Sr., Alton Merrell and Mark T. Jackson and Final Call.

Pastor is chairman


The Rev. Nick Mager will chair his first meeting of the Ohio Presbyterian Retirement Services Council on Spiritual Life & Church Relations on Tuesday.

He began his two-year term as chairperson in July 2012.

The council oversees OPRS’ church-related activities and spiritual initiatives while leading its church relations program.

OPRS is Ohio’s largest not-for-profit provider of continuing care retirement communities.

The Rev. Mr. Mager, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave., has been with the church since 2002.

Prayer breakfast


Oak Missionary Baptist Church, 320 Elk St., will host its annual prayer breakfast at 10 a.m. Oct. 20.

The pastor’s aide department is arranging the program with speakers, Deaconesses Mable Milton, Willie Mae Robinson, Vickie Jones and Olympia Feagins.

3 in 1 Trio concert

Ohltown United Methodist Church, 2001 Ohltown Road, will present 3 in 1 Trio in concert at 4 p.m. Oct. 21.

Featured will be the Revs. John and Filese Hauser, president and administrator at Son Grace Music Ministries.

Last walk of season

Villa Maria Education & Spirituality Center will host the last labyrinth walk of the season from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday with the theme “Path of Oneness.”

Sister Therese Pavilonis will offer a brief history and introduction.

Youngstown chapter


Youngstown Chapter of Igniting New Life Ministries, an interdenominational ministry, will meet Monday at Georgeanna Parker Activity Center in Boardman Park.

Fellowship will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the ministry at 7.

Guest minister will be Mike Guarnieri, senior pastor of The Father’s House, an Assembly of God church in Norton, Ohio. He founded Mike Guarnieri Ministries in 2001.

Youth music


The Total Praise and Worship Choir of Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, 67 McClure St., will host a Youth Musical Explosion at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 20.

The youth choir, directed by Charles Robinson, and Anointed Praise Dance Ministry and special guests will be featured.

This event is free and open to the public. The Rev. Lee T. Rucker Jr. is host pastor.

Anniversary service


Liberty Bible Church, 2111 Sodom-Hutchings Road, will have anniversary services at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Oct. 21 featuring the Wylers on Wheels.

Guest soloist


Dwain Briggs will be guest soloist during a service at 11 a.m. Sunday at Unity Centre for Spiritual Living, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road.

His repertoire includes prayers and chants in Latin, Aramaic, Sanskrit and English. He was a featured vocalist on the Grammy- nominated album “Solace” by composer and recording artist Michael Hoppe.

Billboard message


Communities of Catholic Sisters based in Ohio and Kentucky are calling on President Obama and Congress to work together to enact immigration reform, and on state legislators to refrain from passing laws that would restrict the human rights of immigrants.

Local sponsors of the project are the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown, Humility of Mary Sisters and Notre Dame Sisters.

The collaborative has rented billboards with the message: “I was a stranger an immigrant and you welcomed me.” Billboards locally will be at the corner of McGuffey and Albert streets and at 927 Market St. in Youngstown beginning Oct. 22.

The public is invited to a prayer service regarding this issue at the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown Motherhouse Chapel, 4250 Shields Road, Canfield, at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 24.

Consecration service


New Life Christian Covenant International will have the Holy Consecration Service for Bishop Elect Calvin Penny at 2 p.m. Saturday at The Holy Temple Church of God in Christ, 161 Early Road, where Walter A. Bishop is pastor.

Bishop C.S. Johnson of Antioch, Calif., will officiate.

95th anniversary


Shiloh Baptist Church, 518 Plum St., will celebrate part 2 of its 95th anniversary with a special guest soloist, Paulette Rupert-Gardner of Detroit, singing during the 10:45 a.m. service on Oct. 21. At the 4 p.m. hour, the Celebration Choir will present a musical program featuring local choirs, soloists, mime teams and instrumentalists.

Needle’s Eye event


The Needle’s Eye Christian counseling center will have its annual fundraiser banquet at 6 p.m. Oct. 19 at St. Patrick Church social hall, 1420 Oak Hill Ave., with guest speaker Pastor Jonathan Moore of Highway Tabernacle.

Father Ed Noga of St. Patrick Church will be master of ceremonies.

The event will include dinner, a silent auction and door prizes.

Installations set


Bridging Of The Spirit Christian Center, 3024 Myron Ave., will have an ordination service for Brother Gregory A. Smelly to the office of deacon and install Elder Dieldra L. Penny as associate pastor at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Trunk n Treat


Christian Assembly, 5050 South Ave., will have its annual Trunk n Treat event from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 20. Children age 1-12 are welcome with parent/guardian. There will be light refreshments and plenty of candy.
