Teen arraigned

YOUNGSTOWN

Kyle J. Patrick, 17, of Midland Avenue was arraigned in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court in the murder of 27-year-old Michael Abighanem in April.

Abighanem, of Thalia Street, was shot after he and a friend went to a house on Silliman Street on the West Side about 4:30 p.m. April 27 so Abighanem could sell a video-game system and a laptop computer.

The case has been assigned to Judge John Durkin. Patrick’s next court appearance is set for Tuesday.

Weapons training

Vienna

Residents and passers-by in the vicinity of the Youngstown Air Reserve Station on King-Graves Road should not be alarmed if they hear weapons fire between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m. Thursday.

Members of the 910th Airlift Wing’s Security Forces Squadron are scheduled to perform routine firing range weapons training during those hours to maintain the mission readiness of the security personnel assigned to the 910th.

Tailgate event

Youngstown City Schools will host a tailgate event beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday before the East High Panthers football team takes on St. Thomas Aquinas.

Tailgate permits are $10 and can be picked up at the YCS Business Office at 20 W. Wood St. Music will be provided by DJ Greg Johnson.

Tailgating will be at Harding Park, on Ohio Avenue behind the new Rayen Stadium. The game begins at 1 p.m. at the stadium.

Leasing meeting

Leetonia

Leetonia High School, 450 Walnut St., will host an oil and gas leasing meeting from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Any residents with lots or acreages are encouraged to attend.

Park roads to close

Youngstown

Mill Creek MetroParks roads will be closed from approximately 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday for the Out of the Darkness Suicide Prevention Walk. The roads affected by the event will be Bears Den Road, Cross and West drives.

Women in court

Girard

Two women accused of burglarizing five homes were in Girard Municipal Court on Wednesday.

Sarah M. Capaldi, 23, of Girard, and Tera M. Welsh, 26, of Boardman, were bound over to the Trumbull County Court of Common Pleas after they both waived their right to a preliminary hearing.

Capaldi is facing five counts of burglary and one count of breaking and entering, while Welsh faces one count of attempted burglary.

Remove decorations

Niles

The caretaker of St. Stephen Cemetery has requested that all decorations be removed from graves before Oct. 28 to facilitate leaf removal. Fall decorations may be replaced the first week in November.
