OSU promotes interim marching band leader
COLUMBUS (AP) — Ohio State University has promoted its interim marching band leader to the full-time director’s position.
Jonathan Waters succeeds Jon Woods, who retired last year after 25 years as director of the band known to its fans as “The Best Damn Band in the Land.”
Waters’ promotion Wednesday follows a halftime performance at the Nebraska game Saturday that led to a viral Internet video of the band replicating various video game characters.
In one remarkable move, the band morphed itself into a giant horse that appeared to gallop across the field.
The university says the YouTube video has received more than 8 million hits to date.
Waters is a 2000 graduate of Ohio State, where he was a four-year band member.
