Fed firearms charges filed against 5 Mahoning Valley men

Published: Thu, October 11, 2012 @ 5:50 p.m.

CLEVELAND — Federal firearms charges have been filed against four Youngstown men and a Warren man in unrelated cases, the U.S. Attorney announced today.

Ramon S. Herring, 23, and Gregory L. James, 32, both of Youngstown, and Delmar D. Jordan, 34, of Warren, were each charged with being a felon in possession of a gun and ammunition.

William C. Oliver, 41, of Youngstown, was charged with lying to a federally licensed gun dealer because he falsely stated he wasn’t a convicted felon when he tried to buy a .22-caliber rifle from an Austintown dealer, the U.S. Attorney said.

Walter A. Williams, 18, of Youngstown, was charged with possessing a .45-caliber pistol with an obliterated serial number.

The cases are being prosecuted by David M. Toepfer, the Youngstown-based assistant U.S. attorney, after investigations by Youngstown police and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
