Householders first honorees of Walk to End Alzheimer’s
The Eugene D. Householder family is the 2012 Honoree Family for the annual Alzheimer’s Association’s Boardman/Youngstown Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday at the Lariccia Community Center in Boardman Park.
Check-in is 8:30 a.m. and opening ceremonies are at 9:30 a.m.
Rebecca Miller of Columbiana, a member of the Householder Team and daughter of Eugene, who died Aug. 15, 1995, of Parkinson’s disease and dementia, said the family started participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s as a way of honoring her father and collecting donations for a worthwhile cause.
A new feature for the Boardman event is the Promise Garden, in which participants are given a paper promise flower on which to write a personal message, which will be used to create a colorful and meaningful garden at the walk.
Those interested in registering for the walk can visit alz.org/walk or call 330-533-3300.
There is no cost to sign up, but participants are encouraged to seek donations from family members, friends and co-workers.
