Annual crafts festival returns

Staff report

The 18th annual Old-Fashioned Christmas in the Woods crafts festival will be Saturday and Sunday and Oct. 20-21 at Shaker Woods.

The festival will host 200 quality craftsmen and artisans in a manicured, wooded setting.

Juried and costumed crafters will decorate their booths in an old-fashioned holiday theme.

The exhibitors will demonstrate their crafts and sell a wide selection of handmade holiday items, as well as traditional crafts.

Many favorites are returning for the Christmas show.

Holiday craft items, decorations and handcrafted Christmas ornaments will be featured, as well as holiday clothing, wreaths and floral arrangements.

Crafters will include candle makers, leather workers, woodworkers, doll makers and basket weavers.

Hand-thrown pottery and iron and stone work also will be available.

“We’ve always had a great selection of quality crafters, but this year we’ve maxed out,” said Ken McGaffic who, along with wife, Linda, promote the event.

Rock singer B.E. Taylor will return to perform all four days on the newly expanded Meeting House Stage. Known for his Christmas concert, Taylor will perform music from his two Christmas CDs and original music.

Also returning is teen singer Vanessa Campagna, slated for the second weekend. She will perform on the Garden Stage Oct. 20 and 21.

Also returning are:

The Beaver Creek Band, with its blend of traditional bluegrass music.

The Free Spirit Cloggers dance troupe.

Renaissance Rhythm Chorus, a women’s chorus affiliated with the Sweet Adelines International.

Jive, a Sweet Adeline quartet.

Bob Bellamy performing on hammered dulcimer.

A wide variety of food vendors will serve traditional and holiday favorites.

Holiday baked goods and candies also will be available.
